Grand Opening Celebration & Open House on Saturday, August 29

Even though we opened our doors on June 22, we are excited to announce Goorus’ official Grand Opening on Saturday, August 29.  All classes on August 29 will be free and open to the community, so we hope everyone in the Palisades, Santa Monica, Malibu, and beyond will check us out.

In addition to our regular schedule, we will have light refreshments and raffle prizes, as well as a number of special classes and guests in store for visitors on this very special day.

Regularly Scheduled Classes:

8:30 | Rise & Shine | Gretchen Lightfoot

9:30 | Weekend Warrior | Al Tavera

9:30 | Iyengar Experienced | Larry Heliker

11:30 | Expand & Flow | Robyn Thompson

Special Additions:

11-11:25 | Mindful MeditationSinging Bowls | Jahna & Michael Perricone

1-1:30 | Bollywood Bhangra Beats | Achinta McDaniel

2-2:55 | Chair Yoga | Stephanie Kang

3-3:55 | Mindful Pregnancy, Labor & Breastfeeding | Michelle O’Neill

Some of you already know Stephanie from her Tuesday afternoon Yin classes here at Goorus, but you probably didn’t know that she teaches other styles of yoga such as Chair Yoga.  Since we recently launched a Chair Yoga class on Wednesdays at 10:45, it made sense to us to showcase it at our Grand Opening/Open House.  If you have problems with your wrists, getting down to/up from the floor, or are recovering from an injury, Chair Yoga is a great way to start/re-start your yoga practice and maintain your flexibility.

If you are curious about meditation and mindfulness, be sure to check out Jahna and Michael Perricone, who will lead our Mindful Meditation & Tibetan Singing Bowls segment.  Starting September 11, Jahna will begin leading a weekly Mindful Meditation on Fridays from 9:15 to 10 am

Achinta McDaniel of Blue13 Dance Company will lead a short Bollywood Bhangra Beats class at 1.  Bollywood Bhangra Beats is an electrified whirlwind of heart-pumping, shoulder bumping, hopping, jumping Indian dance for ALL levels of women and men, and incorporates warm-up, technique, and choreography in Bollywood and Bhangra styles of the subcontinent.

Our final class of the day will be Mindful Pregnancy, Labor & Breastfeeding with Michelle Leclaire O'Neill, PhD, R.N.  Michelle is an expert on hypnobirthing and mindful pregnancy.  Director of the Mind Body Center in Pacific Palisades and a local resident, Michelle is a pioneer in the stufy of mind-body integration for treating infertility, pregnancy, pre-term labor, and postpartum depression.  She has published five books and audio CDs on the subject and holds weekend workshops for couples individuals and professionals in addition to private sessions.

Gretchen Lightfoot

A Yoga Alliance RYT-500, Gretchen trained with Carmen Fitzgibbon, Thomas Taubman, and Gigi Snyder of YogaWorks in Los Angeles. Gretchen’s teaching experience includes YogaWorks, Neutrogena, Fancy Feet Dance Studio, the Palisades Library, the Palisades Rec Center, and one-on-one work with a number of private clients throughout LA.

Gretchen’s classes vary in style. Her weekday morning classes run from a balanced, all-level flow to a chilled-out yin practice, to an Iyengar-style wall practice. Sunday morning flow tends to be a little more energetic (expect music). Regardless of the style, Gretchen encourages practitioners to listen to their bodies and modify where needed.
